New Year, New Ideas

EVERYONE is chatting about resolutions for the new year, but we all know these good intentions don’t last long at all. So instead of drastic changes why not just adopt some new ideas? I’m not talking major transformations or unreasonable goals, just a few ideas when added together all make a big difference to your life. These suggestions don’t require too much motivation or modification to your daily routine, and they’re things I do. So if I can do them, you can do them. Here are my new ideas for a new year…

START YOUR DAY THE RIGHT WAY – you should be having breakfast every morning and it should be healthy. Most of us don’t have a lot of time or energy in the morning so here’s an easy, healthy breakfast idea for everyone to try. All you need is muesli, a jar with a lid, fruit, nuts and yogurt. Start by adding muesli into the bottom of the jar, followed by a layer of blueberries, then pour in plain soya yogurt or natural yogurt, add a layer of bananas, then a layer of clementine segments and a sprinkling of toasted almonds. Pop a lid on your jar to take it with you for breakfast on the go or just mix it up and dig in.

GET SOME FRESH AIR – whether it’s going for a walk, cruising down the street on your longboard, exploring the town you live in (because let’s be honest when do we ever actually do that?), going for a drive with the top down on your car – it doesn’t matter how you do it, just get some fresh air! This is especially important if you work indoors, if you’re stuck behind a desk all day you really need to get out. I walk everyday with my dog Molly, we go out for an hour every morning and not only is it great exercise for both of us, it’s a great way to release stress.

PLAN A HOLIDAY – it might be 6 months from now or 5 years from now, however long it takes its doesn’t matter. Decide on your destination, find a jar, start saving and look forward to all the amazing adventures you can have there. Having a holiday to look forward to will keep you going!

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER – I’m a prolific tea drinker but forget to drink water. So now every time I have a cuppa I make sure I have a glass of water as well. To get through your day you need to stay hydrated and it does wonders for your skin, so make sure this is a resolution you stick to.


READ MORE – put down your phone, tablet or laptop, turn off the television and pick up a book. I’m not talking about an ereader I mean an actual book made from paper. I read every night before I go to bed and absolutely love it. As well as buying new titles I also like to visit my local Oxfam book shop and pick up secondhand, classic and vintage books from £1.99, you can’t get much for that price these days, so that’s an absolute bargain for something as special as a book. It’s a good idea to go for something you wouldn’t normally read – these are usually the books that surprise you and make for the best reads.
